What low vision means
We speak of low vision when visual capacity remains reduced even with the best possible correction, often as a consequence of macular degeneration, glaucoma or diabetic retinopathy. The sight that remains, however, can be made to work harder.
The aids available
Optical and electronic magnifiers, telescopic spectacles, selective filters that raise contrast and cut glare, aids for reading and for distance vision. The choice always begins from what the person wants to go back to doing: reading, cooking, recognising faces.
A path walked together
The right aid takes trial, adaptation and sometimes several attempts. We work in contact with the specialist following the person, so that visual rehabilitation produces results that hold in real life.
