Why it happens
The crystalline lens changes shape to focus on close objects. Over the years it becomes less flexible and that ability declines. The first sign is a familiar one: holding the phone or the newspaper further away to read it.
What can be done
Progressive lenses let you see at every distance through one pair of glasses. For people who spend most of the day at a desk there are lenses dedicated to intermediate distances. And for anyone who would rather not wear glasses at all, multifocal contact lenses are a real alternative.
An optometric assessment evaluates visual function and does not replace an examination by an ophthalmologist. Diagnosis and treatment remain the responsibility of a medical eye specialist, and we work alongside one whenever that is needed.
