What happens
We start with a few questions about your daily life — work, driving, sport, hours in front of a screen — because the right correction depends on how you use your eyes. Then come the visual acuity measurement, the refraction and the binocular tests.
Nothing about it is invasive and no preparation is needed. It takes around twenty minutes.
How often to repeat it
For an adult with no symptoms, every two years is a sound rule. It becomes yearly after forty, when presbyopia appears, and for anyone wearing contact lenses. For school-age children regular checks matter especially: an uncorrected visual defect often shows up as difficulty at school before it shows up as a complaint about sight.
An optometric test, not a medical examination
An optometric assessment evaluates visual function and identifies the most suitable correction. It does not replace an eye examination by an ophthalmologist, which looks at the health of the structures of the eye. Whenever we see signs that need medical attention, we tell you and point you in the right direction.
An optometric assessment evaluates visual function and does not replace an examination by an ophthalmologist. Diagnosis and treatment remain the responsibility of a medical eye specialist, and we work alongside one whenever that is needed.
